The parish priest of Mary Immaculate parish in Terekeka said that his catechists work hard but they are underpaid.
Fr. Santo Loku Pio told SCR News yesterday in Terekeka that lack of proper payment hinders the performance of the catechists.Fr. Loku lamented that out of 192 catechists only 49 receive some form of remuneration.
Fr. Loku said the parish administration gives the catechists a period to teach catechumens.
He added catechists have also time off in order to cultivate their fields.
However, Fr. Loku said Sunday services run as normal throughout the year.
