MEDIA URGED TO BE NEUTRAL IN REPORTING POLITICAL ISSUES

Eastern Equatoria state Director of Administration in the Ministry of Information and Communications has urged the media to be objective and non-biased in political reporting.

Agafito Lokikay was speaking to over 20 journalists this morning at the opening of three-day training workshop, at Hotel Torit, in Torit, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Mr. Lokikay urged the participants to acquire the skills and knowledge on elections coverage and reporting to empower them to cover upcoming political events.

He said South Sudan has set departments in every state to monitor political issues on the media.

Mr. Lokikay urged media houses to record, check and edit political messages from every candidate of any harmful information before broadcasting.

Norwegian Peoples Aid Media Project Co-ordinator in South Sudan, Boboya James Edimond, said the training is meant to provide background on the electoral system as well as training election reporting strategies and techniques.

Mr. Boboya mentioned several places such trainings have been contacted in and others, yet to be carried, targeting over 190 journalists in Southern Sudan.

The workshop was organized by Sudan Media and Elections Consortium in Conjunction with Norwegian Peoples Aid.
