Catholic Relief Service (CRS) has said that it will not help combat starvation in Eastern Equatoria due to food relief stoppage by the organization.
CRS commodity control officer Cealy Kareo told SCR news that her organization has stopped giving emergency food aid and therefore it is unable to help the starving people in Eastern Equatoria.Mrs. Kareo said CRS Sudan has been helping the vulnerable, schools, hospitals and many others with general emergency food distribution across southern Sudan for at least 12 months.
She added that CRS assumed to have achieved its first primary objective in the southern Sudan after the CPA.
Ms. Kareo said the general emergency food distribution was stopped since December 2009 due to lack of funds.
She added that during at least 12 months of emergency food distribution to the vulnerable people in southern Sudan, CRS was preparing the communities to exert effort to produce their own food.
Ms. Kareo said little have been achieved by the communities to produce their own food.
She added that CRS may assist later when donors approve new projects.
