TORIT TOWN GETS NEW LOOK AFTER GENERAL CLEAN-UP

Torit, the capital city of Eastern Equatoria, has received a facelift after a daylong public cleaning exercise ordered by the caretaker governor to get rid of plastics and other litter.

Torit woke up on Wednesday to a workman’s mood with every business person turning into a cleaner as shops and the markets were all closed for several hours to give a news face to the town, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Police and the military were heavily deployed all over the town to oversee the cleaning exercise until filthy areas were turned into tidy environment.

The Wednesday general cleaning exercise that has improved hygiene and sanitation situation in Torit followed an order on Tuesday passed by the incoming care taker governor.

Brig. Gen. Johnson Juma Okot upon his arrival to take over the leadership of Eastern Equatoria state, declared Wednesday, a public day for cleaning up Torit town.

The arrival the caretaker governor in Torit was graced among others, by traditional leaders, business community, government officials, religious leaders, civil society and representatives of NGOs.
