Local graduates who went through a USAID-sponsored training programme are to head repair works in one of Malakal’s worst streets.

A local contractor, Okuic for Engineering Ltd, who recently completed infrastructure improvement training, was awarded the contract to repair the Dengreshofu-Hai Malakia street with USAID funds, the US embassy in Khartoum announced today.

Okuic went through a capacity building programme sponsored by USAID before being awarded the contract.

USAID is sponsoring a course for contractors who learn construction work and road maintenance.

Engineers and technicians from the ten state Ministries of Physical Infrastructure learn to do procurement, create minor works contracts, and project supervision.

Okuic Company employs 50 skilled and unskilled women and men.
