CARTER CENTRE MEETS WITH CIVIL SOCIETY TO LAUNCH LOCAL ELECTION OBSERVERS PROGRAM

The Carter Centre has organized today a meeting with civil society groups to plan for the preparation of national elections observer teams in an effort to engage them in the elections process.

Said Sanadiki is the Carter Centre Programme Director to engage Sudanese civil society in the electoral process.

He told SCR News that the Carter Centre plans to conduct three kinds of training: elections observation, violence mapping and first counting calculation for civil society groups who want to be election observers.

Mr. Sanadiki said his organization is ready to accept proposals from civil society groups that want to be involved in the project.

He added that the organizations interested in the project have to be a legal entity, non profitable and cover minimum requirement of States through networking.

UNDP is funding the programme with about one million US Dollars divided into eight sub-grants of about 150 thousand dollars each.
