SPLA ASSURES CITIZENS OF SECURITY DURING ELECTIONS

South Sudan army has assured citizens of a secure environment in the region during the upcoming elections and referendum.

SPLA Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Lieutenant General Mubutu Mamur Isaac Mete, made the assurance yesterday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic parish Church in Torit town, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Gen. Mamur said the army is backing up the police in taking charge of security to eliminate cheating and ensure free and fair elections without intimidation.

Gen. Mamur called upon the people of Equatoria to unite, saying power struggles among the people are detrimental to the success of elections as well as the referendum for self-determination of the south.

The SPLA commader cautioned citizens against promises by ill motivated individuals during the elections, adding that whoever receives money offers should eat it but not execute evil plans.

Gen. Mamur warned that the SPLA is on the watch for people who may want to work against the will and freedom of Southern Sudan.
