An independent candidate for governor of Central Equatoria has denounced the arrest of campaign agents and temporary seizure of printed campaign material as harassment and intimidation acts against his candidacy.

Three agents working in Alfred Ladu Gore’s campaign were arrested in Kajo Keji on Saturday and printed material coming from Nairobi was held at Juba International Airport for sometime yesterday.

Mr. Gore told SCR News that the arrests were unfortunate.

He added he is lodging a complaint with the National Elections Commission about the incident.

Mr. Gore complained also for the brief seizure of his printed campaign material yesterday at Juba airport.

He added that material for independent candidates Angelina Jany Teny and Aloisio Emor Ojetuk were also briefly confiscated in order to be checked for unauthorized use of SPLM logos.

Mr. Gore asked for the systematic harassment of independent candidates to stop.

He added that security groups are intimidating independent candidates at the airport and this is totally unacceptable.

Calisto Lado Faustino, secretary-general of Mr. Gore’s coordination committee campaign, said that on Saturday three SPLM militants were arrested in Kajo Keji County because they were working for the candidate.

Mr. Lado added that the three SPLM officials whom he identified as being Daniel Dumo, Abraham Kondyang, Kajo Keji chairperson, and Charles Ramadan, secretary, were detained without case filed against them and later released.

Mr. Gore is running for the governorship of Central Equatoria under the banner “Fundamental Change.”
