International findings indicate that human rights standards in Sudan are bellow international community expectations, a church official said.

Isaac Kenyi is the secretary-general for Justice and Peace Commission at the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference.

He told SCR News that Sudan has no good record concerning the respect of human rights.

Mr. Kenyi cited the repressive laws and powers of the security that confront peoples’ rights practiced in the north.

The church official added the rampant killings with impunity where the perpetrators are not brought to book, government’s excessive powers and lack of respect for the Interim Constitution and its Bill of Rights.

Mr. Kenyi called upon the government to ensure positive means that will respect peoples’ rights during the electoral campaign and voting.
