Population Services International (PSI) has started training the first batch of over 300 anti-malaria campaigners in Eastern Equatoria to prevent the spread of the infection in the region.
PSI Communications coordinator, Joseph Obale Paleto, told Radio Emmanuel in Torit that the NGO is to train over 300 members from ten community based organizations to disseminate information on dangers and prevention of malaria in partnership with GoSS Ministry of Health.Mr. Obale noted that malaria is one of the main killer diseases accounting for hundreds of deaths in Sudan and millions in the world at large.
He added that most malaria victims are children whose lives could be save by sleeping every night under treated mosquito nets.
Mr. Obale said PSI has started forming 30 trainers in the first lot of a total of 300 campaigners to carry out malaria sensitization in the rural areas.
He added that training for the Intrapersonal Communication Programme that started in Torit town yesterday is the first of its kind in South Sudan.
