The head of Chancery in the Ugandan Consulate of Juba has noted with deep concern the introduction of the fifty dollar monthly visa as a constraint to free movement and a factor that affects country relations.
GoSS ministry of Internal Affairs has issued an order earlier in January that all foreigners in South Sudan have to renew their GoSS travel permit every month at the cost of 50 US dollars. The order came after speculations of terrorists preparing an attack on a flight of Air Uganda between Juba and Entebbe.
The ministry noted that the expensive visa would restrict terrorists from staying in the region.
Chancellor Migadde Habib told SCR News that the measure was unrealistic and it is affecting the common man instead.
Mr. Migadde added that the Ugandan government is looking at alternatives like removing the need for a visa so that Southern Sudanese and Ugandans are free to cross the borders without paying money.
He added that the governments should remove areas of discrimination between the two countries for the two communities to live in harmony and peace.
Mr. Migade acknowledged that a committee of traders has been formed to brainstorm on the new GoSS order with government officials.
He added that his team has not officially met with GoSS minister of Internal Affairs, Gier Chuang, to discuss the issue further.
