The Southern Sudan High Elections Committee has released today the data for nomination of candidates in Southern Sudan.
The nomination of candidates started on January 12 2010 and was finalized on February 10.
Ms Jersa Kide Barsaba, a member of the Committee and coordinator for the ten states, told SCR News that the nomination exercise in the South has seen 2869 nominations, from the position of President of Southern Sudan to the governors, to the three different level of legislative assembly.
She added that 782 of the nominees were women for a total of 187 seats reserved to them.
The period for campaign started on February 13 2010.
Ms. Jersa appealed to parties and candidates to avoid incitement to hatred and discrimination during campaign.
According to the elections calendar, the period of campaign will last until April 9.
