Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly is to summon two GoSS ministers together with the governor of Western Equatoria over incidents in Yambio with state police and army harassing several hundreds of students after the CPA celebrations.

On January 21, 83 civilians including students, were severely injured by the state police and army as they demanded for incentives promised by the state after their participation in the CPA celebrations in Yambio.

Alfred Barakat Manga, representing Yambio County in Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, told SCR News that that an investigation committee has been formed to look into how the army was brought into the scene.

He added that the committee will visit the injured, talk to the church leaders who brought the injured to the hospital, and summon the ministers for Internal Affairs and SPLA Affairs together with the Governor to determine who was responsible for the grave incidents.

Mr. Barakat noted that the involvement of the army in looting and beating up innocent civilians had not been revealed until he raised the urgent and important matter to the assembly’s attention.
