The official inauguration of the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) in Wau last Thursday was a very historic and moving moment, an official said.

Sr. Pat Murray, from the Loreto Sisters, is the Executive Director of Solidarity with Southern Sudan, the organization that operates the newly open CHTI in Wau.
She told SCR News that the opening ceremony was very moving.
She added the facility was reopened after more than 25 years after part of the main building was recovered to receive the first batch of nursing students.
Sr. Pat said the CHTI is being rebuilt in three phases.
The first phase was inaugurated on Thursday (class rooms, labs and living quarters for students). Phase two (staff facilities) and phase three (the completion of the main building) will be completed in the next twelve months.
The CHTI was inaugurated by Catholic Bishop of Wau Rudolf Deng Majak and Western Bahr el Ghazal State Minister for Health with guests, staff and students in attendance.
Nineteen students have started a six-month preparatory course to get ready for the four-year programme for state registered nurses.
This is the first course of its kind running in Southern Sudan after the war.
The school will start other courses in the future including midwifery.
Solidarity of Southern Sudan is an umbrella group of about 100 female and male religious institutes that support and run programs for the formation of nurses and teachers in Southern Sudan.

This year the group will start also a pastoral programme in the region.
