A house to house research conducted by UNICEF Child Protection Unit has revealed that Upper Nile, Lakes and Central Equatoria states rank high in early childhood marriage practices.
Njoroge Thou, head of the Child Protection Act, told SCR News that the survey shows that child marriage is quite high although education has caused a reduction in the malpractice.
Mr. Njoroge added that poverty is one of the key factors leading to the practice of the early child marriage.
Mr. Njoroge explained that communities are aware of the law on early marriage.
He called upon the government to start implementing the law as soon as possible.
