The Juba National Consensus Group gathered yesterday for a consultative meeting that was attended by six major parities from the north and the SPLM.

SPLM deputy secretary general for the northern sector, Yasser Said Arman, told the press at the end of the meeting that the SPLM with the Umma, Popular Congress, Communist, Umma Party for Reform and Democratic Unionist parties resolved to reaffirm the Resolutions of the Juba Conference and unite for free and fair elections.

Mr. Armani said that the group expressed concern over the National Elections Commission incapacity to answer to complaints.

The group decided to put in place a common coordination mechanism during the elections process.

The Juba National Consensus Group is concerned with national observers who it says are connected to the National Congress Party.

The group added that laws that are restricting freedoms are still in place and called upon president al-Bashir to freeze them.
