Eastern Equatoria State current governor handed in yesterday the necessary documents to the Eastern Equatoria High Election Committee in order to run for the post as independent candidate in the upcoming elections.
On Sunday, Governor Aloisio Emor Ojetuk announced that he wanted to run as independent candidate for governor of Eastern Equatoria. He added that the SPLM Political Bureau who chose another candidate allowed members to run as independent.
Mr. Ojetuk, who was accompanied by several Government officials, submitted his documents despite a SPLM warning that it will not tolerate its members to run as independent candidates in either executive or legislative posts in the April general Election.
He appreciated the election committee for accepting his papers and recounted to the crowd who accompanied him the four years he had been serving for the development of the state.
Mr. Ojetuk is among at least three SPLM senior officials who have officially declared their independent candidacy for governorship.
Mr. Ojetuk will run for Eastern Equatoria, Alfred Lado Gore for Central Equatoria and Angelina Jany Teny for Unity State.
