The Pope has asked priests and consecrated women and men to use the tools of the digital age to proclaim the Word of God.

Pope Benedict made this appeal in his message for the 44th World Communications Day under the theme “The priest and pastoral ministry in a digital world: new media at the service of the Word.”

The Pope asks priests and other pastoral agents to use modern means of communication to make known the life of the Church, and help people today to rediscover the face of Christ.

He added that the task of consecrated persons working in the media is to pave the way for new encounters while making sure the quality of human contact and attention to people and their true spiritual needs.

Pope Benedict concludes that new technologies are a resource and an opportunity for believers in order that no road shall be closed to those who, in the name of Christ, draw near to their fellows in humanity.
