Eastern Equatoria lawmakers finally passed the 2010 fiscal year Budget at its fourth reading yesterday.

The motion of the 2010 budget at its fourth reading at Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly was presented by the chairman of standing committee on Development, Economic Finance and Public Accounts, Rino Loremo Arungule, with 30 MPs on attendance, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The motion was seconded by Dominic Otwari and supported by most lawmakers, including Paul Napwon, state minister for Finance, after the chairman appealed to the House to consider passing the budget so that the next state Government can function.

The acting Director General of the State ministry of Finance, Alfred Kayumba Tugul, said that the balance of funds brought forward from 2008 stood at almost six million Sudanese pounds as on 1 January, 2009.

It was mainly the balance from sales of Strategic Food Reserves.

In 2009 Eastern Equatoria was operating under a deficit budget. The State received almost 51 million Sudanese pounds and spent 60 million excluding expenses with education.
