KUAC BOR COMMUNITY CALLS FOR CALM IN JONGLEI STATE

A civil society group has appealed for calm in Jonglei state after clashes erupted between Dinka of Figi and Nuer of Fangak counties killing at least 24 people.

Boutros Rwai Biel is the Deputy Secretary of Information with the Kuac Bor Community for Development. He told SCR News that the clashes that erupted in Jonglei state have not yet been addressed by the concerned authority.

Mr. Rwai urged the Government of Southern Sudan to intervene in order to calm down the situation in case the state fails to do so.

He added that SPLA soldiers were deployed in the area but did not intervene to prevent the clashes.

Mr. Rwai said the fighting erupted since 16 January fuelled by individual issues.

The clashes left 24 dead and many more wounded.

The wounded are receiving treatment in Malakal teaching hospital.
