SCORES INJURED IN PROTEST CRACKDOWN IN WESTERN EQUATORIA

At least 80 protesters were injured in a police crackdown on a peaceful demonstration yesterday in Yambio in the aftermath of the CPA festivities.

The crackdown was sparked by disgruntled students who rioted demanding the pay promised by the state Government for their part in the celebrations.

Twenty protesters have were taken to Yambio hospital in critical condition while another 40 are unaccounted for.

The incident occurred two days after the town hosted the 5th anniversary of CPA.

Students claimed they were engaged by the state government during the CPA feast.

The rally drew some 500 students to Yambio stadium, with participants chanting “We want transparency and our money.”
