Abu Bakr Waziri from the National Elections Commission told Reuters that the deadline for nominations is delayed until January 27.
However, Mr. Wazari said that the elections will be held on time.
The original deadline would end on Saturday.
The 10-day nomination period was announced just days before it began on Jan. 12. Some prospective candidates were not given registration forms until much later, leaving little time to collect the signatures needed to be endorsed.
The general elections take place from April 11 to 18.
