This is the time to revive the ecumenical spirit, the pope said.
Pope Benedict made this remark yesterday while praying the midday Angelus with the crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square, at the Vatican.
The Pope reminded that the week of prayer for the unity of Christians starts today and goes up to January 25.
Pope Benedict said it is time to revive the ecumenical spirit, to meet each other, to get to know each other, to pray and reflect together.
He added that the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus will be much more credible and effective if faithful are united in his love, as true brothers and sisters.
Pope Benedict invited parishes, religious communities, ecclesial movements and associations to pray unceasingly, in a special way during Eucharistic Celebrations, for the complete unity of Christians.
