The National Constitutional Court ruled yesterday that the Government of Southern Sudan cannot ban the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement for Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) to conduct its elections campaign in the South.

SPLM-DC leader, Dr. Lam Akol, who split from the SPLM last year, has complained that his party leaders have been arrested and harassed in the south Sudan by the SPLM, Reuters reported.

Dr. Akol praised the court’s ruling saying that it is a victory for constitutionality.

The SPLM has accused the SPLM-DC to be an armed movement causing unrest in the region.

Dr. Akol was nominated by the alliance of southern political parties for President of South Sudan to run against SPLM candidate Salva Kiir Mayardit.
