UNAMID PROMOTES HUMAN RIGHTS IN DARFUR

The UN-African Union peacekeeping force in Darfur, known as UNAMID, has promoted a two-day workshop on human rights and gender-based violence for displaced persons in Darfur.

The event took place at ZamZam IDP camp, in the outskirts of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

The 25 participants, included women, sheikhs and local community representatives.
The exercise aimed at decreasing the number of human rights and gender-based violence cases and assisting victims in gaining proper treatment.

Among the topics addressed were the importance of seeking medical treatment and the steps a victim must take to report a violation to the local authorities, as well as early or compulsory marriage, and child protection.
