The Kenyan president announced in his New Year’s message the construction of a new corridor linking the new port of Lamu, in Kenya, with Juba and Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia.
Dr. Joseph Kiplagat is the consul general of Kenya in Juba. He told SCR News that the projected announced by president Mwai Kibaki is a major infrastructural development.

Dr. Kiplagat said the new corridor will be formed by a road and a railway line leading to Kampala in Uganda which will be later extended to Juba after an agreement by both the governments of Uganda and south Sudan.

He added that Juba will be linked by railway to Mombasa through Gulu, in Uganda.

The long term project is expected to be under way in 2013.
