The Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Juba has condemned the shooting of five Kenyan citizens that took place on Monday about 10 PM at a hotel in the area of old Customs Market.
Three Kenyan citizens died on the spot, including one waitress and the owner of the hotel, while other two were severely injured by a SPLM officer.
Kenya Consul General Joseph Kiplagat told SCR News that there was an issue of money between the officer and one individual but it gave no legitimacy to the shooting.
He added that fortunately the generator went off otherwise many other people could have been injured or killed.
Mr. Kiplagat said the growth of criminal activities in Juba is disturbing and security personnel are targeting Kenyans at night to exact money from them.
He added that the Consulate has reported the incidents to the relevant authorities in Juba.
Mr. Kiplagat informed that five more Kenyan citizens died of accident and two drowned in the Nile during Christmas festivities.
Meanwhile, GoSS Minister for Presidential Affairs, Dr. Luka Biong, presented condolences to the Government of Kenya and to the families of the victims of Monday’s shooting on behalf of the Government of Southern Sudan.
