Security in Juba town has been tightened up ahead of the New Year’s celebrations, an official said.
Gier Chuang Aloung is GoSS Minister for Internal Affairs. He told journalists today that a good number of organized forces have been deployed in the town to cater for the security while citizens welcome the New Year.Minister Chuang said telephone numbers will be provided through the media for civilians to call the police in case of need.
He added that anybody found killing a civilian is a criminal and the law must deal with that person.
Five people including one child were reportedly killed by celebratory gunfire as New Year festivities got out of hand in Juba at the beginning of 2009.
Several people were wounded as the bullets fell to the ground over densely populated areas.
