The year of 2010 will be critical for the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and for the future of the country, a UN official said.

Jehangir Ashraf Qazi, the special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, wrote on his New Year’s Message that 2010 will be a crucial year for negotiating and implementing agreements and understandings on issues that will determine the fate of the CPA and the destiny of Sudan.

Mr. Qazi asks the Sudanese to make every effort, both individually and collectively, to contribute to the success of the CPA through the consolidation and keeping of peace.

Mr. Qazi urges the political actors to set aside all other considerations and work together for the security, the rights, and the development of the potential of their people.

The UN special representative to the Sudan assures that the United Nations and the international community are committed to assisting the political leaders in every possible way to ensure peace.
