Three Kenyans are dead and two seriously wounded after a gunman in army uniform opened fire on them Monday night at a bar in former Custom Market in Juba.

Lucy Wanjiku, a Kenyan national who witnessed the shooting, told SCR News that five people, one female and four male, were shot at and three died at the spot, including the women, while the other two incurred several injuries.

She said that one of the injured was flown to Nairobi while the other is at Juba Teaching Hospital waiting to be evacuated.

The bodies of the victims were flown to Nairobi today.

Ms. Wanjiku said that the gunman appeared to be drunk.

She added that security for foreigners in southern Sudan remains an issue as most of them are mishandled by the authorities and by locals.

Ms Wanjiku said that other Kenyan nationals were harassed at Gudele, in the outskirts of Juba, on Christmas Eve, by men in police uniform.

She added that they were beaten with lashers.

One was evacuated to Nairobi to be treated for severe injuries sustained during the beating.
