The Criminal Investigative Defence unit in the Uganda General Consulate in Juba has started publishing names of suspected criminals who are believed to be in hiding in southern Sudan.
Ariko David, the head of the CID unit in the Ugandan consulate, told SCR News that seventeen names were published in the New Vision Newspaper edition of December 5.Four were female.
In the list there was a well known Sudanese tycoon whose family resides in Uganda.
The list of the culprits will be distributed in the ten states of southern Sudan.
Mr. Arikop confirmed that his desk has already deported some Ugandan criminals who were involved in murder, theft and child negligence back home.
He further explained that more criminals are hiding in southern Sudan and neighbouring countries and Interpol will be involved in the investigations to track them down.
Mr. Ariko added that his desk is facing a number of challenges in pinning down such criminals like the lack of an extradition treaty between Sudan and Uganda.
