The disarmament exercise started on December 24 in Tali and extended to neighbouring villages and cattle camps in the following days.
The SPLA garrison in the area was reinforced with soldiers from Terekeka in order to conduct the exercise in a wide and heavily armed area.
Civilians complained of mistreatment because soldiers were beating young people to discover where the guns were hidden.
However, they added that the soldiers were respecting their belongings.
On Christmas Day a local military source told SCR News that the SPLA had collected over 60 guns in Tali alone.
Some Tali residents expressed apprehension saying that without guns they feel vulnerable to cattle rustling attacks by neighbouring tribesmen.
They added they expected the army would disarm communities in neighbouring Lakes state.
