The Southern Sudan Human Rights Commission started today in Juba a three-day conference with chiefs from all over the region to engage them in a discussion that will beacon justice and human rights promotion.
Southern Sudan Human Rights Commission Executive Director, Victor Lado Ceaser, told SCR News that the conference aims at providing an opportunity for enlightening traditional chiefs with the knowledge about human rights issues.

Mr. Lado explained that the conference comes after a survey carried out by the commission showed that awareness on human rights was too low in southern Sudan.

The conference is being organized by the presidency together with the Southern Sudan Human Rights Commission under the theme “Southern Sudan chiefs, beacons of human rights promotion”.

Particular attention will be paid to gender as an issue that must be streamlined into any human rights agenda.
