The US special envoy to the Sudan has welcomed during an official dinner yesterday with the GoSS president the agreements that were signed between the National Congress Party and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement on the referenda laws.

The Government of National Unity, headed by president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir, unanimously approved on Sunday the draft bill of the Act on Referendum in South Sudan, the Act on Referendum in Abyei and the Act of People’s Consultation in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile.

Scott Gration said the agreements demonstrated a political will and the leadership that is wanted to create a good political environment.

He added that the drafts represent a combination of many months of hard work.

Mr. Gration said the US government is pleased that the bills are being worked on in the national assembly and it would be more pleased to see a continuation of the CPA implementation.
