The Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference concluded yesterday its yearly ten-day plenary assembly issuing a statement on the current situation in the Sudan.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari, who arrived late yesterday in Juba, told SCR News that the bishops have written a message asking Sudan to strengthen the avenues of peace.
Bishop Mazzolari added that the bishops wrote that war is not a solution for the present difficulties.

Thirteen bishops met with a number of church officials to review their activities in the country.

The representative of the Pope in the Sudan, Archbishop Leo Boccardi, was unable to attend the Assembly.

Bishop Mazzolari said that half of the agenda for the assembly was not tackled due to lack of time.

He added that the bishops decided to hold their plenary assembly twice a year instead.

Most of the participants are returning from Torit today.

The bishops are expected to meet GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit this evening to inform him about the outcome of the plenary assembly.
