The Church has a very important role to play during the preparation for the upcoming elections and Christians have to understand their participation as a religious duty of love for their country, a senior churchman said.
Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek told SCR News that the Church has to create awareness about the participation in the elections.
He added that the church has to be involved in the voters’ education process in order to motivate people to take part in the ballot exercise.
Bishop Mazzolari said the elections have to be done properly and in a transparent way after voters are informed about the process.
The general elections to choose the president of the republic, the president of the Government of Southern Sudan, 25 Governors and the members of the national, Southern Sudan and State assemblies take place from April 11 to 18, 2010.
