The Catholic Cardinal of Khartoum has advised the people of Eastern Equatoria State to take the lead to establish honesty, reconciliation and peace in the Sudan.
Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako made this pronouncement during his first visit to the region to take part in the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference Plenary Assembly that concludes today in Torit, Radio Emmanuel reported.Cardinal Zubeir said Eastern Equatoria was Southern Sudan’s struggle centre for liberation in 1955.
He added that the region now should spearhead the construction of peace, justice, reconciliation and honesty in the country.
Cardinal Zubeir said that in October the African Bishops discussed issues reconciliation, Justice and peace in the continent during their second Synod and the question of honesty came out with frequency.
He added that the African synod observed that corruption will destroy society and spark violence in the continent many times wrongly blamed on tribalism.
Cardinal Zubeir acknowledged that people expect a lot from their bishops.
He added that the bishops are the custodians of peace; good governance and freedom.
Cardinal Zubeir promised that the Sudanese bishops will play their part to deliver words of guidance to help the people in the struggle.
