A member of the high Committee for Election Registration in Rashad County, Nuba Mountains, confirmed to Voice of Peace Radio that the display of Voters’ Register is presenting several challenges.
Miss Salma Sahid said she was sent from Kadugli to Rashad County on Thursday evening to assist the population of two payams, Kauda and Kumpur, in the checking up of identities until tomorrow.
At her arrival in Kauda, she found that the population has not been informed of this new step of the elections process.
Ms. Sahid said that until Saturday very few people have gone to check the register.
She noted that people live in remote areas and there is lack of transport to bring them to the exhibition centres.
Ms Sahid added that the Voters Register given to her to allow people to check their personal information has many errors: most of the names and the registered numbers are different from the original copies.
She said that voter registration went on well in the area, but a great confusion has come after the registered identities were printed.
Ms. Sahid encouraged Nuba citizens to report in their respective areas to check their names and receipt numbers to make sure they are correct in order to be able to vote for the April 2010 elections.
