“One was tall and one was short and thin, both covered their faces with clothes and one was wearing army-like clothes”, Fr. Andrea Osman told the High Court of South Sudan while giving evidence provided by the complainants Peter Awin Along.

During the court hearing of Monsignor Christian Carlassare on Wednesday in Juba, he narrates that the culprits who stormed to their door and shot the Bishop-elect were two.

The witness said the two culprits came with guns and told them to leave, as they shot bullets down the ground, next to his feet after shooting the bishop in both legs from his room.

Another witness Luka Dor Agor, head of Seminarians, who stays in the same compound with Monsignor Christian Carlassare, says three among the six suspects are familiar faces that used to visit Fr. John Mathiang, at fathers’ quarters in Rumbek.

“I know three of this six accused suspects, one (Gabriel Deng Dut) used to drive Fr. Mathiang’s car in and out of the compound and the other two comes for visit as friends and relatives do”, Dor testifies.

The head of seminarians when asked says that, Fr. John Mathiang, the first accused suspect did not came out until the time, the injured bishop-elect was being transported to the hospital

“Fr. Andrea anointed the Bishop, and we pulled him to the bed sheet, it was Fr. Andrea myself, Albino Kok plus the seminarians we carried him to the car and we took him to the hospital”, the seminarian explains.

Justice Alexander Sebur Subek declared on Wednesday that the hearing will resume on Friday 11th February 2022.
