Juba Power Station has been granted 20 million Sudanese Pounds from the 2010 GoSS Budget in order to reduce power blackouts in the capital and answer to the ever increasing demands for electricity.Reading the amendments and corrections of the 2010 Budget, Dr. David Mairo, said the Juba Power Station was given 20 million Sudanese pounds subtracted from the Electricity Corporation funds for fuel and lubricants.
He added that Yambio and Bor power stations also received 2.5 million Sudanese pounds each.
Mr. Mairo said the states are obliged to run their own electricity and not the Government of southern Sudan.
He added that energy should not be given free of charge.
Juba has often faced on and off power cuts for the last five years. However, the Power House announced that this month another four generators will start operating doubling the production of electricity.
