35 officers and 237 non-commissioned officers from the former Salam Forces have joined the SPLA Division Five in Wau. The group, led by Major General Tom Al-Nour Daldoum, joined the South Sudanese army after negotiations with the Government of South Sudan and the Military High Commands in Juba. Major General Al-Nour told Voice of Hope on Tuesday that the merging of forces was a step to promote the unity in South Sudan and national building. He said his group reached an agreement with the Government, got some places in the national and state governments and retained the old ranks as requested. The former rebel leader added that there are still points in their agreement with the government to be discussed and the negotiation with Juba will continue in the coming days. Major General Al-Nour said he handed over his forces to the command of Division Five in Wau, ordering them to cooperate in boosting security in the state. He explained that his forces were ready to coordinate with the national and the state commands to ensure stability. The Salam Force was formed in the 80' in Wau and joined the Sudan Armed Forces after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. It became part of the Joint Integrated Units in Wau during the interim period. A number of militias had already joined the SPLA when the JIU were dissolved. The group held a meeting on Tuesday with the state government and the security committee to discuss the cooperation between Al-Nour's group and the security agencies in the state.
