Voice for Change on Friday concluded a three-day gender-based violence for teachers and parent-teachers’ association members in Yei to mitigate and response to sexual gender-based violence in schools
 
The training brought together 35 participants drawn from different schools in Yei municipal council.
 
Speaking to Radio Easter, Jessica Night, Voice for Change Senior Social Worker, explained that the training was to impart in teachers knowledge of gender-based violence with since they are the direct persons who deal with learners.
 
Vuni Julius, Yei Municipal Education Supervisor of Basic Schools confirmed that gender based violence is happening in the schools
 
He said teachers, students and community members perpetrate psychological, physical and sexual violence is being in schools.
 
Representative of PTA Yusuf Muhammad described the knowledge got from the workshop as important and enough to fight cases of gender-based violence in schools.
 
He promised to collaborate with other PTA members who did not attend the training to brief them on their roles in fighting harmful practices in their schools.
 
Nada Abilla, teacher’s representative explained that the training helped senior women educators to identify cases of gender-based violence and abuses for female students.
 
She mentioned that the training also helps identify and approach sexually abused girls and amicably handle issues patterning gender-based violence.
 
She appealed to the entire community to stand with girls because they have rights to education protection and life.
 
The speakers made these remarks in an interview with Radio Easter on Friday in Yei River County.
