The head of the Union of Journalists in Torit is calling on the government to permit freedom of access to information to journalists to create conducive environment for their work in the state and the country at large.
 
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel, James Kabaka Quintous said journalists should be allowed to do their duties freely to strengthen societies.
 
He adds the work of journalist leads to enforcement of economic growth, democratic structures and positive outlook of the future.
 
“In South Sudan we are all traumatized because of what happened in the past, this means that lack of information in this regard can at any stage of conflict can make people to become very desperate and easy to manipulate. For us as the media fraternity the ability to make informed decision, strengthen societies, enforce their economic growth, democratic structures and the positive outlook of the future is very much important,” he explained.
 
Kabaka called for recognition of the media because it is the mirror and watchdog of everything.
 
He added that community radios also help in spreading news to local communities in different local languages which help in access to information.
 
The head of journalists in Eastern Equatoria urged the government more especially the security agencies to give chance to journalists to work without interference
