The outbreak of east coast fever in Eastern Equatoria state killed six hundred heads of cattle in parts of Torit, greater Ikwoto and Magwi.

Speaking to radio Emmanuel cattle keeper Omene Dosolina in Torit says pastoralist fear that their kraal may close due to the disease.

Meanwhile director general in the directorate of animal resources and fisheries, Donato Apari says east coast fever is caused by ticks and can be contained by putting control measures.

He adds the directorate does not have drugs to treat the animals but will lobby for support from partners.

This disease can only be contained by control measures; we are moving from kraal to kraal advising the cattle keepers. As per now the government do not have drugs, the director explains.
