Girls Education South Sudan or GESS promised to give school Girls in South Sudan cash allowances in order to support them and their families to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Radio Bakhita quoted the organization saying “the first round of GESS 2020 Cash Transfers has started this week to aid the increased economic need of girls’ households, despite schools closure”.

It reported that each girl approved to be paid this first round of Cash Transfers will receive SSP 3,300 and must collect the money in person.

GESS adds that girls who will not report to school at the time of payment will not receive their cash transfers.

The agency urged girls who are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough and other flu-like symptoms and those who have been in contact with anyone showing symptoms to remain at home.

It also called on anyone that has been asked to self-quarantine including guardians, school managers, and payment agents to stay at home.

The organization said girls infected by the COVID-19 will receive their money.

Girls Education South Sudan is a program funded by the British government to boost education in the country.
