Citizens of Tonj complained of high prices of commodities in the market.

Marko Thokriel Ater, one of the customers, said prices in the market are very high which make life difficult for consumers to survive, Don Bosco Radio reported

He explained that one kilo of meat is 1000 SSP and a gallon of dura is 800 SSP which is difficult for citizens to buy.

Another customer, Rebecca Angelo, said South Sudanese pounds have lost its value nowadays because of the economic crisis and pandemic lockdown.

She disclosed that 1000 SSP is not enough to feed the family in a day due to the prices in the market.

Rebecca asked the national government to look into the matter to make sure they will manage to cultivate this year.

Abraham Mading Beech, a meat seller in Manyatta Market, explained that they are facing challenges in getting cows to be slaughtered due to insecurity in the area leading to sky rocking of prices.

There are no people coming with their cows for sell due to road ambushes by the criminals, he stressed.

Sadik Ismail, a business man also said prices increased because of transport limitations due to coronavirus fear.

He mentioned that a bag of sugar 50 kg rose from 11,000 SSP to 14,300 SSP while a bag of flour also went from 10,000 SSP to 13,500 SSP.

All citizens and traders called on the government and partners to support them in this terrible situation.

They speakers made the remarks to Don Bosco radio on Friday in Tonj.
