South Sudan Women’s Coalition demanded from President Salva Kiir and the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar to return their seats that were taken and occupied by men in the recent formation of the cabinet in the revitalised transitional government.

A member of the coalition, Aluel Atem, said three of their ministerial positions for the 35% are missing as stipulated in chapter one of the agreement.

“The cabinet has only fulfill 26.1% of the minimum 35% provided by the RARCSS, this is a flagrant violation of the agreement and it should be corrected immediately in accordance with article 1.13.1 which calls for the notification of the president of the republic within at least 14 days to replace any minister”, Atem added.

The Women’s Coalition called upon the vice president in charge of gender and youth cluster to look into the violation of the peace accord, Aluel noted.

“We want to remind all the parties in the agreement that a violation of any provision of the agreement is the violation of the entire agreement”, she cautioned.

“We are expecting 193 female MPs, three female governors, one head of administrative area plus one deputy, three deputy governors, 28 commissioners, four speakers in the states”, she elaborated.

We remain seized of the matter and committed to continuously engage in the implementation of the revitalised peace accord, she added.

The South Sudan Women’s Coalition meeting attracted women from various institutions and political parties that are signatories from the peace accord.

The agreement allows replacement of the ministers within 14-day or 90-day of its formation stipulated in chapter one in the revitalised peace accord.
