Torit State has refuted information circulating on social media that the journalist who was arrested since Friday was because of airing a news story about First Vice President’s sanctions by US.

During a press statement, State Information Minister Margaret Idwa Okuye argues that the information was unfounded.

“The government of Torit State would like to inform the people of Torit State and the people of South Sudan at large of the lies and unfounded story manufactured by enemies of peace published by Radio Tamazuj claiming that a radio journalist was arrested for airing a story about the sanction of the first vice president of South Sudan”

Idwa says the arrested journalist, Ijo Bosco, is currently under police custody for violating administrative rules of the Radio station.

She adds that the journalist did not broadcast very crucial news about the training of the SSPDF Forces in Owinykubil.

“I want to tell you that Mr. Ijo Bosco is at the police custody for further inquiries. On the 10th January 2020, all the media houses were invited to come and witness the address of the SSPDF forces by the head of state honourable governor before their departure to training center at Owinykubi. That very day, this is very crucial news or activity that everybody was waiting to listen to but to our dismay this news was not aired by the state run radio”.

The speaker made the remarks in a press release statement on Tuesday.
