Lecturers of Rumbek University of Science and Technology announced that they will not stand in front of their students citing reluctance of the Ministry of Finance to pay their salaries.

In July this year, the council of ministers approved a new unified salary structure for the higher institutions including the public universities.

Lecturers revealed that they have not received any message regarding payment while other civil servants got their four months salaries a few days ago.

Speaking to Good News Radio on Wednesday afternoon, Mathew Malou, who spoke on behalf of the lecturers, says their decision to cease teaching is because five months have gone without payment.

The lecturer regretted harsh conditions under which they continue to give services while their families struggle to get food.

He added that they are only looking for payment of their salaries.

The university calendar indicates that students were supposed to have their exams on December 5, 2019.

One of the students of Rumbek University, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Good News Radio that this new development will affect them.

He urged the government to pressure the Finance Ministry to pay lecturers as soon as possible.

Last week Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba Professor John Akec during the 22nd graduation cautioned government of possible action should there be no payment soon.
