The circulation of illicit arms influence negatively on the security of South Sudan community, says Retired Brigadier General Christo Simon Fataki Director on Capacity Building on Regional Centre on Small Arms.

He stresses that the control on arms should be limited only to security agencies to free small arms members to work through the exploitation of normal resources that are available.

The country is committed to the small arms agreement, says Lieutenant General Andrew Kuol Nyuon Gew, Chairperson of the Bureau of Community Security and Small Arms Control.

He discloses that the small arms agreement will soon be passed to the council of ministers and the parliament for approval

The availability of illegal arms in the hands of civilians is alarming, making the regional centre on small arms concerned about it, cautions Lieutenant General Kuol.

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Riaw Gatliel, indicates that with the implementation of the revitalised peace accord, will help the members to disarm civilians.

The officials were giving their opening remarks on Thursday on the third national sensitization workshop for South Sudan Executive on the accession of arms trade treaty in the country.

South Sudan approved Nairobi Protocol on the Prevention, Control and Reduction of Small Arms and Light Weapons in 2011, which provides a framework for regional cooperation amongst the 15 Member States.
